What are points for? In this yahoo answers program.?

I just recently started and can't wait till contribute, but I"m curious on one thing. What exactly are the points for?

  1. Points on this web site are an indication of the experience of the person answering the question. A percentage is displayed showing answers voted best divided by total answers. The higher the percentage the more trustworthy the answer. As you accumulate points you move to higher levels. The level allows you to do more on the site such as being allowed to answer more questions per day. There are no prizes for points. Yahoo may decide from time to time to give gifts based on level but there is no guarantee. The challenge to to reach level 7 and beyond. To see the method of gaining points and what each level allows just click on your points or level.

  2. The use of points is a marketing device.  It  encourages users to stay on-line longer thus exposing them to more advertising.  

    Yahoo knows that gaming is popular and so do their advertisers.

  3. You are limited on the amount of questions and answers you can contribute on the first couple levels. After you get up on the higher levels...you have unlimited for both.
