What are police terms--number-wise?

When police say things like I have 412 or something like that, what do they mean? Is there some kind of website that has a list of all of these?

There are SEVERAL websites that list MANY of them.  The problem is the numbers don't mean the same thing everywhere.  In many cases, the numbers are code sections for the law being referred to.  For example, if section 412 of the state code dealt with burglary, a 412 would mean a burglary.  As each state, and many cities, have there own legal codes, the numbers vary by location.

Depends on the department, is not standardized throughout the country for some reason. But in my department 412 is not a real code...
