What are poly stringers?

I bought a fishing kit and it has a poly stringer but I have no clue what it's used for.

Any help?

  1. A stringer, in a fishing kit, would be for stringing your catch allowing you to put them back in the water to stay alive.  These were often used before the advent of cheap ice chests and readily available ice.  A poly stringer uses a line with usually a large ring on one end and a knitting needle like device on the other.

    The needle is inserted through the gills and out the mouth.  If the ring is to small, feed the needle, and line, through the ring. Now attache the needle firmly to something secure, put the fish in the water and continue fishing.

    For each subsequent fish just run the needle through the gills and put it back in the water.  Some times you will see pictures of people holding up stringers loaded with fish.


  2. I think you are talking about the "leader"  which is clear and often has a swivel in one end and the lure on the other.  This attaches to the end of the "black" fishing line.

    strigers are the frame of the hull inside the boat

    poly is like a plastic   older boats use wood and the rot so poly is better
