What are promise rings?

How old should you be to give or reciecve one??

Promise rings are basically a sign of love and loyalty.  I don't think there is an age limit on giving or receiving a promise ring, although I find a lot of teenagers do it but I know people in their late 20's that have gotten a promise ring

I would say 18.  Its nice to promise, however before taking the plunge, make sure it'll work out.  I find that you truly do not know what you want in life until you are at least 25, and how can you find the right person if you don't know what you want.  Wait...life has so much to offer.

A promise ring is a ring you give or receive when you are in a long term relationship with someone who you intend to be with forever but can not or are not at the point of engagement. Maybe the man chooses not to get the engagement ring or wedding set at this time because of finances or whatever. I say you should not get a promise ring until you are out of high school. that way, you are promised to someone while in college a couple years than you marry.

In the old movies when two teenagers, etc were "going steady" the guy would give the girl his class ring as a PROMISE to be true only to her.

In certain cultures, a promise ring is given to the future wife by the future husband as a signal to the parents that they can start the wedding process. There is generally a huge parties with both families there to celebrate this event.

In the US, its when a 16 yr old falls in love and wants to be "engaged" or when a guy doesn't want to marry the girl but gives her the ring as a "shut up" ring.  Sad, right? LOL

It's supposed to signify a promise for everlasting committment.

Promise rings are usually given in high school by a boyfriend with the intent of a promise. This promise could mean anything from getting married in the future to waiting to have s*x before marriage.

Honestly, I think promise rings are ridiculous when you hit adulthood.

Well me and my bf have talked about getting one hes 17 and im 15 so i dont think age should really matter as long as u love the person

a promise ring is sumthin u engrave i promise in n then give it to a fuking orphan who turns out to be a s**t n breaks ur heart :)
