  1. They're just what they sound like.  Books of coupons for discounts on various services onboard.

Typically there are coupons for things like a free or reduced drink, discounts on spa treatments, discounts on gift shop or photo gallery purchases and the like.

They are only good for the sailing you are on, it's a use them or loose them situaton.

  2. You need to be a member of the cruise lines loyalty program to get the books.  I'm only a member of Royal Caribbean since I love their ships so much.   So, whenever I take a cruise, I will get a coupon boook in my cabin, as well as a little gift..which is usually like a picture frame, bag, etc.   They are kind of like thank you gifts.

At least with Royal Caribbean they have levels of their program.   The lower the level (based on how many cruises you take) the less you get.   The higher the level, you get more such as more coupons or coupons worth higher amounts, as well as a few other perks.

  3. If you are a repeat traveler and a member of their "club," you can get a coupon book that gives you discounts on certain onboard products and services - a free ice cream, 20% off your massage, free bingo cards or poker chips, etc.
