  1. Food stamps work like discount coupons that enable those qualified to buy certain items cheaper.

    I can't find a link for Canada.

  2. The Food Stamp program is administered by the Food and Nutrition Service of the United States Department of Agriculture, thus it is not available in Canada.  It is a program designed to help alleviate hunger in low income American families by supplementing their food budgets and at the same time help create a bigger market for American farm goods.  Applicants apply at their local social service office and if they meet the income, resource, and other eligibility requirements they are issued an EBT card that gets loaded with a monetary benefit based on income, certain expenses, and household size.  The benefit can only be used to purchase food.  Canada may have a similar program but if so I have never heard of it.  I would suggest contacting your local social service office to see if anything similar is provided.
