What are "safety corridors" for on highways?

When you drive down some highways, you will see signs for safety corridors and that the speed limits are strictly enforced. What are those safety corridors for?

  3. It's usually in areas where drivers are basically insane- usually going too fast for current traffic conditions.

Either, because of specific conditions add a higher risk, or, because of a road's bad history of collision, some segement get this designation.  Sometimes, besides the speed limits being monitored a bit more closely, engineers may post other requirements, such as asking drivers to turn on their headlights, during the day, for greater visibility.

Its an area that there are a lot of speeders, and accidents.  In my area they are on two lane roads that big trucks use but also have lots of side streets, train tracks and lots of cars trying to use those roads as a short cut.  so they are just trying to make drivers more aware with out putting more officers on the road
