  1. Intact cats are not very pleasant as pets!  Adult tom cats stink.  They spray very potent urine everywhere, which will absolutely ruin a house.  They will try to get out to seek females, and will roam and may never come back.  They also get into lots of fights with other males, which lends to serious, chronic diseases like FIV and FeLV.

Adult queens are obnoxious when they're in heat.  They make a ton of noise, try to escape, and generally think about nothing but getting bred.  Unlike dogs that cycle about twice a year, female cats go into heat repeatedly during the warm seasons.  If they stay in estrous for long periods without breeding, they will lose weight and can become anemic.

Plus, cats that aren't spayed, and especially those that aren't bred either, are at really high risk for mammary and uterine cancers.  These will rack up expensive vet bills and ultimately probably kill the cat anyway.  Intact males are at higher risk for urinary infections and reproductive cancers, too.

The price varies considerably based on the clinic.  I have seen low cost spay/neuter clinics that charge $20-30, and upper end vets that charge $300.  Generally, a cat neuter is very cheap because it is an extremely minor surgery.  A spay on average is probably around $100 to pay for anesthesia.

  2. so they dont have more unwanted kittens in the world. to stop two cats fighting together.

  3. Did you know?

Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all the animals. As a result, every year 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized because there are no homes for them.

What can you do to stop the suffering?

Spay and neuter your pet! In addition to saving lives, spaying and neutering can also drastically improve your pet's health and life expectancy. The idea that pets become fat or lazy when they are spayed or neutered is a myth. Sterilized pets lead healthier, longer lives. Spaying a female eliminates the possibility of uterine and ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the risk of breast cancer. Neutering a male reduces the risk of both prostate enlargement and prostate cancer. Neutering also will make your pet more affectionate and less likely to roam, get in fights, or become lost.

Spayed and neutered pets are better, more affectionate, companions.

Neutered cats are less likely to spray and mark territory.

Spaying a female dog or cat eliminates its heat cycle, which can last twenty-one days, twice a year, in dogs, and anywhere from three to fifteen days, three or more times a year, in cats. Females in heat often cry incessantly, show nervous behavior, and attract unwanted male animals.

Spayed and neutered pets are less likely to bite. Unaltered animals often exhibit more behavior and temperament problems than those that have been spayed or neutered.

  4. for me it's about 50-60 but some vets are 'rich' and want more for it. males are alot easier then females as you can imagine so that is in the price. no fights, better behaved and more loving. get your cat fixed!!! don't wait and ? youll end up with unwated kittens!!  GET IT FIXED!!!!

  5. Most of the people i know spay or neuter their cats to make sure they dont have anymore kittens to take care of by "accident".You can also do this to help make sure she/he is healthy and it could prevent him/her from getting any kind of disease in that area i have 5 cats and 4 of them are spayed/nuetured and for my vet place it cost around 50 or 60 each but you can just call the vet and ask them

  6. Spayed or neutered animals live longer, behave better, are healthier, at less risk for some diseases and don't contribute to animal over-population. Please always spay and neuter. Good luck.

  7. i think the prices depend on the vet? some males can get very agressive for a lot of testorone in them.

  8. 1- to control the pet population! cats usually have quite a few kittens each batch and most people wont pay for kittens so they are given out for free. that means that an animal abuser could pick up a free kitten!

#2- they will stop fighting. male cats like to fight for a mate and sometimes the results are very bad. they could either get killed or seriously injured.

#3- they wont run away from home. male cats tend to run away from home more often if they are not neutered. then imagine if kittens were born then they would run around and get in fights and then there would be cats EVERYWHERE.

  9. Because Bob Barker says so.

  10. It helps make sure there are no unwanted kittens. But if you want kittens then you shouldnt spay or neuter you cats. Some humane socitys Spay and neuter there cats before they put them up for adoption. but if you take them to the vets to get it done it cost us like 50 dollars.
