  1. What is the reason not to? knowledge.. that isn't a bad thing.

  2. A lot of American culture came from Greece originally, Greece is so strongly defined by it's mythology that it is valuable to know the mythology, it helps us to understand more about where we came from. Also the stories are beautiful, they are all about love, and anger, passion, betrayal, gods that are inhuman in that they are more human than us. They do what we think about. Zeus uses firebolts for weapons and keeps all the rest in line but cheats like a dog. Hera is perfectly faithful to her husband but she hates his guts and turns his girlfriends ito animals. There's a lot to enjoy there.

  3. Lots of myths exists to explain the world we live in or to warn against certain undesirable behaviors.  Greek mythology tends to depict Gods and heroes that are over-exaggerated representations of one or more key characteristics.  Some characters, such as Narcissus, provide the root for the modern day word, which in this case would be narcissistic.  These stories remain relevant because humans still deal with the same emotions and personal triumphs and defeats.

  4. It gives me work in translation, research, and reference work. Though I often don't charge. I do have some works published and I have learned a lot.

  5. It's really fun.

  6. most literature is based on or have at least a few references to greek mythology. This includes the characters, stories and general idea and theme so its really useful if your studying literature as it makes analysis a lot easier... its really interesting as well.

  7. A lot of modern stories are based on Greek myths, like Romeo and Juliet (based on Pyramus and Thisbe). References to myths pop up a lot in pop culture too, like the Harry Potter books.

  8. Greek mythology constitutes human philosophy and it was very beautifully done to have us ponder over human nature in metaphorical sense.
