Recreational skates are skates that are used for skating around the pond or rink with the fam a few times a year.  Recreational figure skates are not really made for jumps or spins because there isn't a great deal of support for the ankles and the blades are usually less quality.  Most often they're made of vinyl and plastic, whereas a higher quality boot will be made of leather and better quality materials.  Recreational hockey skates are about the same.....they're a little more flimsy and don't offer a lot of support for effective pushing and speed.  A recreational skate isn't made for someone who is spending large amounts of time on the ice.  Usually they're the type of skate you'll find at rummage sales or at chain sporting good stores.  The name brands are brands like Lake Placid or CCM (which also makes better hockey skates).  Your better figure skates are brands such as Harlick, S.P. Teri, Riedell, Jackson and Klingbeil.  Also, more expensive figure skates do not come as a boot and blade together.

Recreational are very inexpensive. You can go to any sport store and purchase one. They are called recreational because that is all they are used for.

Usually, the edges are not as good as competitive skates, and they are not as comfortable due to insuffucient padding; and many of them hurt.

They are for mere recreation. you don't use them a lot and you don't skate in them for a long period of time as you do when you are skating seriously and practicing different elements.

Recreational skates are kind of skates that are used by recreational skaters, that are those who skate just for fun, and cannot be used by figure skaters because they dont have enough ankle support, they are not often sharpened and their blade is not meant for that.

The recreational skates are like rental skates or if you want your own skates you could buy one for $50 in any store just llike target: http://www.target.com/Lake-Placid-Figure...

You could compare it with figure skates because they are made of vinyl and regular figure skates are made of leather, but the design is very similar.

they are just skates that are good but not for skaters who skate all the time and do jumps and spins and all that technical stuff. they are for people who skate every now and again.

the are just skate that dont have anything special on them just for skating not like inline skating or grinding and doing tricks
