What are registry cleaners? ?

My friend told me to scan my PC with a registry cleaner. I do not know much about computers so any help would be appreciated.

First you must know what a registry is to understand why and how to clean it. The registry contains all the settings, configuration, and most other information about your computer. When ever you install a program, or change a setting, that is reflected in a change in the registry. So after months or years of use, the registry gets bloated and it takes windows longer to go through it to find what it needs. That slows your computer.

A registry cleaner is designed, and I stress the word designed, to clean out unnecessary entries that are no longer used. Sometimes that doesn't work as planned and the results can be disasterous. So most registry cleaners try to play it safe and delete only what's really  not needed.

It's completely up to you wether you feel comfortable using a reg cleaner or not. I would suguest that if your're not getting serious errors like blue screens or runtime errors then you might use a reg cleaner to help speed up your PC. If you are getting a lot of errors, then it may be time to reformat your hard drive and reinstall windows. Then you'll start with a fresh clean registry and you can keep it that way by using a registry cleaner.

I use a free program called CCleaner that cleans all the temp locations as well.  The registry cleaner is a button that says registry.  

Be sure you defragment your hard drive regularly too.

Hello Dear

They are softwares which can clean errors in registry

when we change windows settings or install or uninstall some softwares they change registry settings and some of them cause error(s) in it these softwares can find and correct them .

go to www.cnet.com and i suggest ccleaner it is free and works well. basically it will scan your registy for unused entries from old removed programs or ones formed by malware.
