  1. Upper and Lower Northshore (Lower is better), East Subs, Sutherland Shire.

  2. Every part of Sydney is safe, that is you will not be murdered raped, or other wises assaulted, I am not saying that does not happen in Sydney at all However the chances of that happening to you is very slim in deed, I have worked in the Security Industry for almost 20 years and have worked in every area of Sydney including the so called high crime areas such as Kings Cross and Redfern, Campbelltown and Mt Druitt and from experience I can say I feel safe even when doing high risk jobs.

  3. In general all of Australia is very safe. Sydney is a great place to live, but it is fairly expensive. The areas Dan listed are not quite as nice as others, but really they are still very safe compared to most of the world. I wouldn't be particulary concerned if I needed to walk around in these areas at night by myself.

Instead of worrying about safety (Australians just assume they will be safe everywhere) think about what sort of area you would like - a bigger suburban house for a family, an apartment closer to the city etc. The most prestigious suburbs are in the north and east, and anywhere with a water view will be very expensive. The northwest area in particular is growing very fast with many new houses.

Don't worry, Sydney is amazing, you'll love it.

  4. Although Australians are convinced their country is the safest on Earth, the statistics paint a very different picture. Be careful, and do your own research rather than relying on info from Aussies!

  5. aussiebum

  6. Avoid:

    * South western Sydney (eg. Canterbury, Bankstown, Fairfield, Liverpool, Campbelltown areas).

    * Some parts of Greater Western Sydney such as Mt Druitt and Blacktown.

In my opinion, the ideal place would be the Inner West suburbs such as Drummoyne, Burwood and Strathfield. They cost a bit more than the two districts I've mentioned but they are safe places with low crime levels.

    Good luck!

  7. Avoid Redfern!  Other than that, I can't offer much help as I avoid Sydney like the plague (Melbourne vs Sydney rivalry beaten in to me since birth!)

Sydney is expensive, more expensive than most of the other capital cities.  And that's the truth - any Aussie will tell you that.
