  1. lycra underwear normally worn during sport.

  2. To all the answerers who are telling you a scungie is a hair thing - that would be a "scrunchie".  Scungies are skimpier that shorts but cover more than normal underwear.  One common use is for under a cheer leading skirt.  They are to promote modesty.

  3. Thick elastic Hair Things!

  4. its a elastic hair band that is covered in fabric. click on the the following website for a picture

  5. scrunchiis, and they are fabric covered pont tail holders,

  6. Gym knickers.

They're like underpants that kids used to wear over their actual underpants when they played games like netball at school (or at least my mum did!); made out of stretchy material in a variety of colours with strong elastic usually at the waist and legs.

They're like a kind of heavy duty underpants, similar to old fashioned knickers or bloomers, that can be worn either instead of shorts with a singlet or t.shirt or under a short skirt if you're shy about flashing your knickers in public.

You get them from a sports outfitters...and you can find them listed under 'girls sports uniform' on most aussie school websites! I'm not the sort of girl who'd usually post pics of girl's undies online (altho. maybe as a red blooded male...lol!) but you can see what I mean at: http://www.sportnetballshop.com.au/p/242...

Edit: Don't know if this is another example of the same word meaning different things in different places! The hair bands that other posters call 'scungies' are known as 'scrunchies' here.
