What are short curtains called, like the ones that only cover the top?

the way my ceiling was designed (it's a very old house) halfway through my room the ceiling starts sloping, so my windows are pretty much on the ground and only a foot and a half tall. i wanted some new curtains, but can only use really short ones, like ones to just decorate the top. i've tried numerous department store websiteds and googling it. does anyone know what these are called or where i can find them?

A Valance - you can find them in most department stores, and online in places such as:

Valances. Any store that carries curtains would have valances such as Target or Penneys.
