  1. look for huge amounts of rust including (if you can) under the car (the exhaust pipes can get rusty and you dont want a car with a hole in the exhaust a couple weeks later), knocking and rattling noises, front and back interior dont match (a garage tried to sell me a car which had the wrong front seats and we looked to find they werent even fixed in to the car properly as they wouldnt fit the runners. thank god we noticed!), anything that looks unsual on the exterier or interior such as lines in paint etc, perished hoses in the engiene bay.

always check the electrics work such as mirrors, windows, roof etc. also check tyre tread and general condition, if they have awful tyres whats the likelyhood of having the car in good condition?

    check MOT and service history.

full history suggests a car has been looked after as does good tyres, a good paint work (not for exaple that faded pink that red goes)

also make sure you use a company to check the history of the car to make sure it hasnt been involved in an accident or written off.

  2. Please check out the advice for buying used cars on the sites, links below. Don't go and look at used cars without taking someone with you that knows about cars. Caveat Emptor.

  3. Good condition: No rust

    Bad condition : Rust

Age of car Newer usually a good sign . Older ,bad sign.

Make of car. Japanese usually a good sign.

Noise it makes when starting -up, smoke from tail-pipe.Watch out!

Find a mechanic you can trust to check it out.

  4. I would say rust and general dirt inside and out of the car that would show the person has not took care of the car especially if they are selling it. When you take the car out just for a quick test drive, make sure the gears are working well. Also things like is it noisy or bigger faults like pulling. Lift up the bonnet and have a good check to make sure it all looks in good condition. There are also loads of websites that will tell you what to look for

    hope that helps
