I have a 3-1/2 year old child whose in my daycare that has strange behavior. He's still not potty trained......well not on his own. I have to make sure he goes potty every hour to make sure he has no accidents. If I ask him any question for example: "do you need to go potty?" he'll repeat me and NEVER answers the question or any question for that matter. He also does a hand gesture on a regular basis. He does loud out bursts, like a shout. Right now he's lying on a cot and can not stop moving and make loud outbursts.

The parents have done some testing but have not finished it because the insurance ran out, or something liek that. I want to say to them that I think that turrets may be the issue but I dont want to offend them, like the other daycare provider did.

Does anyone know if this seems like turrets syndrome??

  1. it could either be a mild case of terrets, or autism. thats sad. i hope the parents can get him some help fast.

  2. Sounds like you are on to something there. I would defintely bring this up to the parents. They already know there's a problem so they won't be offended. And besides, maybe they have never heard of turrets, and would appreciate hearing your observations. If they can't afford all sorts of tests, just knowing what it MIGHT be could reduce the number he'd have to have.

P.S. LOVE the idea about having a fund-raiser for the family. That's great. Maybe get a church involved and hold a big spaghetti dinner and rummage sale.

  3. I would just continue to love and care for him regardless of him shouting or twitching...maybe start a fund raiser for them to get to the bottom of this... I have no other answers for you,. Im sorry
