Question:

What are small and quiet dogs?

I have been thinking about getting a puppy. I live in an apartment and so I need a dog that is small, and I know I have to train my dog to be quiet no matter what but I was wondering if people found some breeds to be more quiet than others. I have been doing a lot of research about breeds and breeders in my area but I wanted to hear what people thought based on their experiences.

Thanks!

  1. Every dog is different but shih tzus, poodles, lhasa apsos are fairly quiet, small dogs.  It's a generalization though.  I'd try to meet the dog first so you can evaluate it. But even then, it can turn out to be a yapper cause puppies change as they grow up.

  2. hi,

to know what type of dog will suit you, you can use this dog finder match up http://tinyurl.com/6gkcok

the goal here is to help you figure out what type of dog best suits you and your personality. The results of the match up will suggest certain breeds.

    hope this helps

  3. Believe it or not, retired racing Greyhounds make excellent apartment dogs - they are used to having been confined for 23 hours a day, in a very small kennel.  They don't bark, only need a couple gentle walks during the day, and are very good on a leash.

You can have a large dog, and a perfect apartment dog, all in one - and save a life at the same time!

      Really, they are wonderful dogs!

  4. small dogs are not quiet- get a cat

  5. Pugs and Japanese Chins :)

  6. Bisinji.

P.S. I didn't spell that right but if U type that in U will get the right dog

  7. Well, lots of dogs have different personalities. I think I have one that is perfect for you, it's small and adorable but it's playful and quiet. It's a maltese. It also depends on if you can't have one who sheds and additional details. Take a moment to look at this adorable puppy:

Also, as an adult the weight is 4-7 pounds if you are looking for a small one. Hope I helped!

  8. Papillon, Pug, Havanese, Shih tzu.  In that order.  Don't have much experience with other breeds

    P.S.

Dachshund, Poodles and Chihuahuas are great guard dogs - because they bark.....not good choices for an apartment.

  9. if you are asking because you are not allowed to have a dog you need to find a different place to live. Eventually you will get caught and either your and the dog or the dog will be looking for a new home.

No matter how small or quiet the animal is sooner or later you will get caught for breaking your lease. Many breeders are now doing like shelters and rescues do and asking if you are allowed to have an animal in your apartment and for your landlord's contact info to verify that.

  10. I have a min. poodle, he's very quiet.  He usually only barks outside, and not very much.  My neighbors have two shih-tzus that bark constantly outside.  Most dogs bark a lot though.  Small dogs especially.

Hum Basenji might be a good choice.  Though they aren't voiceless, they don't have a bark.  Just note they are higher energy and don't always get along with other animals or strangers

  13. You can probably tell more about  pup's disposition by visiting the breeder and observing the behavior of the dogs in their care.   If you live in an apartment, I get that you don't want all  of your neighbors hating you for having an annoying yippy dog.  A chihuahua can be very happy in an apartment.
