What are social workers?

I am going to one for depression and soical anxiety. What will they do ? I want to get medicine how will I do that? ( I already have a phychiatrist he referred me to a social worker )

  1. A social worker is a person who's trained in a variety of fields such as psychology, sociology, and drug and alcohol counseling. Social work is the effort to promote social equality and social justice in our society. Social workers are advocates for social programs, welfare, and change that addresses the needs of all people who suffer from mental or physical illnesses that places that person at a disadvantage, as well as racial and gender discrimination.

    A social worker assumes many roles in assisting clients, such as mediator,broker, initiator, educator and many others.

    The main goal of a social worker is to EMPOWER the individual, so that they can achieve a higher quality of life.


  2. A social worker keeps tabs on you for various reasons.  Make sure children are safe in their environment, and others that may need assistance.  They evaluate situations and surroundings.  Why do you want medicine??  I"m sure you could get help without it.  God Bless.  and Good luck.

  3. In my locale, a social worker is someone who works for the county's Dept. of Social Services, and determines who qualifies for financial assistance at taxpayer expense.
