  1. volunteering is always possible! I'm sure you can work something out. also, some activities: dance classes =]

  2. I would recommend Girl Guides/Scouts. I have been a member since age 5 and have found the organization to be extremely fun and encouraging. Last summer I was selected to travel to Mexico on a Girl Guide trip. It's extremely rewarding and a great atmostphere for girls.

  3. Besides Scouts and 4H, you can also check with the Boy Scouts of America.  They have a Venturing program for male and female young adults.

The volunteering at a public school sounds like a wonderful idea!

Many HS'ed teens in my city volunteer with the adult reading program.  They help clients learn to read.  That is also something *very* beneficial.

There's also the Red Cross and hospitals.  I started volunteering at the Red Cross at 14.  It actually helped steer my chosen college degree and profession.  As a married adult, I volunteered at a hospital in the pediatrics department for 9 years.  Mostly the only volunteers they have during the day are retired.  They always wished the teen volunteers could be there during the day, not just after 4 pm.  So check with your local hospitals.  You can do all sorts of stuff from working in the mailroom, delivering flowers & mail, delivering food trays, playing with kids in pediatrics, reading to patients, helping in waiting rooms, on and on.

You can also volunteer for radio stations, churches, missionaries, and other non-profit organizations.

Your local YMCA most likely has teen activities.  Check your city's parks and recreation division, too.  If you're part of a HS'ing group, learn what activities like a co-op, chess club, drama, sports, etc., are available.

Whatever you do, it will look great on your high school portfolio for college admissions and/or jobs.  If you have an interest in something for a career, try to steer your volunteer time in that field.  If you haven't yet decided, then do a few different things to see what fits you best.

Have fun in whatever you do!!

  4. Schools always seem to need people to listen to the little kids read. I'm sure you'd be welcome there.

As for clubs, try the SCA. It's a family friendly organisation so you can drag your relatives along too (a good idea, then you have someone to drive you around!) They also promote the idea of chivalry, so it's a good place to find nice fellas! There are people who know all sorts of diverse things and will be happy to teach you. Often kids your age will buddy up with a family of young kids. The parents pay your entry fee to the events in return for you keeping tabs on the kids so they can go and fight, work in the kitchen or just hang out with other "grown ups."

  5. Cooking classes are great. Check your area for Young's Chef Academy. It is a fun cooking class and you actually learn something. Pottery classes are also fun.

As far as volunteering in the public schools... I think it is a great idea. And yes you can do that. I know of a girl that is home schooled and she volunteers and the elem. school twice a week. I do not know if they would let in in the high school level. Call some of your local schools and see what they have to say.

Another interesting thing you could do that would not cost a dime is getting involved in your local nursing home. The elder people love to see young people. Sometimes they just want someone to talk to or play a game with. you could read or sing to them.

i am glad to see that you are interested in volunteering your time. Not a lot of girls your age are willing to volunteer.

keep up the good work and good luck in your choice of activity.

  6. awana-its threw a church

    bowling-bowling alley

    library

    volunteering-working with other kids,elder people.etc.

call your school district and find out about the tutoring

  7. As far as clubs, look into 4-H.  A lot of people have the idea that they are just about animals, but 4-H actually has clubs and projects on all sorts of things, photography, cooking, dance, archery, etc.  4-H is open to kids up to 19 years of age.

The volunteering sounds great, you would have to check with the schools.  Some school districts have programs where older kids come and help younger kids with reading or math... that might be an option.  Otherwise, the library sometimes has programs where you can read to kids for  story time, and help little kids locate books and things like that.
