I have to do an assignment that requires me to find some ecological fallacies in the movie I Am Legend. I came up with a couple but I need some ideas. Can anybody provide me with some? Thanks in advance.

  1. If you gave examples of what you'd already come up with, it would help us give the sort of answers you are looking for.

Added: There is no reason to expect that lions and deer couldn't recolonize a city like New York. Deer are pretty much all over North America and their populations would swell if there weren't people hunting them. Lions and other exotic animals could escape from zoos. The first link below shows just how rapidly nature reclaims the works of man - in this case, an amusement park that had been shut down for only 20 years has some 20 year old trees growing up through the roller coasters. Nature recolonizes quickly.

Zombies are unlikely but not impossible given the engineered virus in the film. Drugs like scopolamine or dextromethorphan can put people into a stuporous or dissociative state and therefore one can imagine a virus that causes your own body cells to produce similar toxins. While it is possible, it seems unlikely that an engineered virus would have such effects without killing the hosts.

The death by sunlight is also a bit of a stretch but not impossible.

I just read a synopsis of the film (I didn't remember all the details) and couldn't find anything that struck me as an impossibility. But also, as science fiction, it is hard to claim that anything in the story reaches the level of a fallacy.

  2. Just pick out all the stereostypes. That'll give you lots already.
