One really cool thing to check out is the mysterious stone spheres left behind by ancient civilizations known very little by anyone today. The terrible deaths of the mass majority of Costa Rica's Native population, by slaughter and disease, left the country with about 8000 of 400 000 original inhabitants from the pre-Columbian era. These spheres can be seen on Isla Cano which is off the coast of the Southern Pacific region near Drake Bay. Here is a little map to show you the area.
