What are some GOOD surround sound Brands? (excluding Bose brand)

I'm trying to figure what brand is worth a low price, i don't want to buy a nice looking system for a low price when the quality wont even sound good.

Just remember that you get what you pay for.  If you but something from a discount department store, it will most likely perform poorly.  Look for brands that have been in the audio business for a while.  JVC, Sony, Yamaha, Denon, Panasonic, etc.  Stay away from cheaper brands such as Philips, RCA and any other cheap brand that neither you nor anybody else has heard of.

Since Price is a factor that will exclude many higher end brands from your list. You can however find some good products from Sony, Panasonic and other well known brands if you shop around. The "big box" Stores will likely have the best selection and prices for this group of products.
