Question:

What are some Halloween party ideas for toddlers?

I'm wanting to have a Halloween party for my 17 month old (then almost 19 months) and a bunch of our friends who have kids similar in age. Right now I can think of a "decorate your own cupcake" table, face painting, and photographs of the kids in their costumes and with their families.

What are some other activities that would be good for the kids (12-24 months or so), the adults, or both?

  1. A pinata might be fun it gives the kids candy for their bags. You all can make masks, have a monster dance contest.

  2. Some more messy ideas would be to buy little pumpkins, cut open the top, and let them go at it pulling the seeds out of it....good for pictures!

Another idea would be to cut out pumpkin shapes out of orange cardboard, cut out black triangle shapes, and put a little glue on the backs of the triangles. Then, let the kids make their own "pumpkins".

Either way, it sounds like a fun party...for both toddler *and* parents.

  3. oriental trading has cute games for young children:

Oriental trading also has lots of halloween crafts for kids to do to.  You can order them or get some ideas to make your own.

    Other games:

    Halloween Toss Gamew:

Buy some halloween pails at the dollar store or we got ours from the goodwill for a nickel each.  You can use pails or cauldrons.  Anyway line 4 or 5 of them up in a vertical line and have each kid stand before a line and toss a bean bag or a halloween item into the buckets.  Put small prizes in the buckets, a better prize for each one that is further away.

    Pinata:

Have a pumpkin pinata and fill with candys or toes appropriate for that age.

    Halloween duck grab game:

Buy this halloween rubber duckies from oriental trading.  Put them in a  wide bucket of water or small pool.  Put nujmbers on the bottom a 1, 2, or a 3.  then have baskets with age appropriate halloween toys in them.  Have the baskets numbers 1, 2 or 3 so they look at the number on the duck and have to match it to the basket and get that prize.  A learning  game .http://www.orientaltrading.com/ui/browse...  Again everyone gets a prize.

    Halloween fishing game:

Get a blue plastic shower curtain liner at the dollar store.  Hang it up somehow where every you are having the part y with the bottom touching the floor so someone can stand behind it.  Decorate it first with some fish cutouts and some pumpkins and not so scary halloween cut outs.  Then have a kids fishing pole or just make one using some kind of handle and some sturdy yarn and a clampy clothespin attached to thew end of the yarn. Then have the kid hold the pole on the decorated side of the curtain, and have an adult put the yarn over the curtain so as if the child were fishing and have the person on the other side attach a toy to the clothespin and help the child pull it over the curtain.  Everyone gets a prize.

    Pass it:

Have all the kiddies sit on the floor in a circle.  Have a halloween item, like a small pumpkin (gourd sold in the grocery store) or a halloween stuffed animal or halloween small ball.  Put a halloween pail in the center with some age appropriate halloween toys or even snacks inside.  Have an adult play some age appropriate halloween music as the kids pass the item around the circle.  As the music stops, the one  holding the item  is out of the game but gets to pick something from  the pail in  the middle.  The game continues this way until 1 person is left and wins.  That person gets a special larger prize, but at least everyone gets a prize.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Many, if not most ,Toddlers are afraid of people in costumes, particularly masks. They are too young to understand what is happening . By all means have a party, but make it age appropriate. No masks or face painting. Make your own cupcake sounds like fun but be prepared for them to be more interested in putting the toppings in their mouths than on the cupcakes. Find a Halloween CD with some music they can move to and make shakers they can make music with. All in all, this sounds more like a party for older kids than for babies.

  5. That sounds so fun.

Go in on a moon bounce? That will keep all the kids really busy for a long time. :)
