  1. Well... your TV usually does not have enough power to drive external speakers. Do you already have a receiver/stereo to drive speakers?

Are you talking 2 speakers for stereo TV or a full 5.1 sound for HDTV?

    Some facts:

    - Small speakers generally do not have WOOFERS.  You need a woofer to get sounds below about 120 hz.  So a external, self-powerd subwoofer is recommended.

    - DVD sound is highly compressed. You dont need music-grade speakers to get a good home theater sound system.

    - Audition: Bring in a favorite music CD (one you are used to) and audition speakers.  While I said you dont need music-grade speakers for HT, music is a harder challenge and will show the 'flavor' of the speaker to you. Buy the speaker that makes your music sound good to you.

Some recommendations: Go to BestBuy/Magnolia and ask to demo the Definitive Technology Studio Monitors 350.  These small speakers claim to include a woofer.  Or you can look at the ProMonitors that do not and add an external subwoofer.

You will likely be shown "Bose" which are cute and small, but they are very over-priced with poor sound quality (but they do tricks to make up for the sound.)  A better choice would be "Anthony Gallow" speakers. These are small, softball sized speakers that unlike Bose, win awards and praises from stereo and home theater magazines.  But you need a subwoofer with these.

  2. Whoa! Thats a heck of a lot of money !

But I was going to suggest you go to Circuit City and have them show you the Boston Acoustics Line....

Amazingly small, yet FULL and RICH sound spooos out of those little babies...

    I was impressed....

So much so, that I have considered getting rid of my Infinity speakers for them....

But I guess the BEST SUGGESTION I can give to you is, Go To the Store and JUDGE for YOURSELF.....

Your ears and preferences are certainly not the same as MINE or anybody ELSE..

People will suggest Polk,  Infinity, Harmon Kardon  and Klipsch.....

But no one knows what you like BEST....
