  1. Ask an experienced realtor in your area to conduct a CMA (Comparative Market Analysis) for you.  It's free, and it's much more accurate than any of the online sites that offer you automated valuation.  In fact, some of those are so far off the mark that it's absurd.

An experienced realtor will be very close to actual current market value on his/her CMA.

And, an experienced realtor is unlikely to bother you if you're not ready to move right now.

  2. domania.com (domainia.com?) shows what houses sold for.  These are the same numbers you see in the newspapers, although I don't know how often domania is updated.

Also, most county tax assessor websites are on-line these days.  if you are looking at a particular property it will tell you the assessed value, and the last prices sold.  Also, many of them have a map feature, which show properties (by different colors) sold in 2008, 2006, etc.

By the way, be careful with the "selling" price listed in the tax assessor website, domainia, or in the newspaper.  The seller may have paid a lot of the closing costs which don't show up in the "price".

  3. none are completely accurate only a certified appraiser can give you  an accurate $$ and theirs is still subject
