  1. all our laws and morals come from the bible

  2. Ancient Hebrew civilization brought with it Judaism - the precursor for Christianity and Islam, as well as their offshoots. Judaism is often credited with being the first monotheist religion, though this may be untrue if in fact Zoroastrianism developed first. Regardless, the old testament, written in Hebrew and later expanded into the Holy Bible is the most published, read, and discussed book in all of history. A lot of western values and morals can directly trace their roots to the ideas, philosophies, and beliefs espoused in this. I would argue that for its relative size, the ancient Hebrew civilization has been one of, if not the biggest influence on modern Western civilization.

  3. They were the first civilization to officially implement and formally document a monotheistic philosophy to explain the phenomenon of life.

  4. They wrote a series of books with great emotive appeal.  That the books were mostly fiction shouldn't matter much.  Who can forget (strong but not too smart) Samson, King David, or poor Ruth gleaning grain in alien fields?
