I'm looking for unique, one-of-a-kind, stylish restaurants with good food and good decor. I'm not expecting 5 stars, but please at least solidly very decent, clean, and good!

Thanks.

  1. Check out the daily "Blue Plate" and "Green Plate" (vegetarian) Specials offered at Luna Grill and Diner, 1301 Connecticut Avenue NW (just south of Dupont Circle), most which hoover around the $10 price range. The District's additional 10% sales tax on prepared food makes inexpensive and quality dining out a rare commodity.

You may wish to further investigate Washingtonian magazine's "Cheap Eats" and "Dirt Cheap Eats" listings.

  2. I think Zorba's in Dupont Circle is really good.  I ate there three times for lunch.  As the person above me said, it's an authentic Greek cafe.  The prices are very affordable, and they have free tea for customers.  I really like the atmosphere and the outdoor seating on the patio in summertime.  I highly recommend it for a unique but inexpensive meal, especially if you enjoy ethnic food.

  3. DC is an expensive town, and Dupont Circle an expensive neighborhood.  Either accept a chain such as Chipotle, or be willing to spend a little more money to get a decent meal.

  4. For lunch you can get an affordable meal at Bistrot du Coin. They have great sandwiches and hot plates in a very authentic French bistro setting.

  5. You can go to Kramer's Books and Afterwords. They have a few lunch items that fit your price. Also they have an Appetizer/Sharezies Section that you can order after 3pm.

    Lunch

Grilled Chicken Ceasar Salad or Caesar w/ shrimp.

    Soup and Salad Combo

Quesadilas or Veggie Chili bowl or Catfish platter

    A few sandwiches

    Grilled Chicken Sandwich

    Fog City Club

    Portobello Mushroom

    Appetizers/Sharezies

Tons of titems check the site

    www.kramers.com

There's also a Thai place Sala Thai where there a few things on the menu.

Cosi is also an option. Baja Fresh is another alternative.

    Good Luck!!

  6. Unique?  That is tough COSI is a chain but not McD's.  North of Dupont there are a few places but they will all run over $10.  Other than hot dog stands you next best bet would be to go South of Dupont just South of M on Connecticut.  There is a Empinada shop which is great!  Right next door is a bar that has great happy hours.

Down on P st West of the metro is a great coffee chop that makes a fabulous chicken salad sandwiches,  Soho.  Just before you get there there is good Middle Eastern Delhi and a Indian curry take out call Brihani.

  7. You could try Teaism - contrary to its name, it does serve food (kind of Asian-themed food).  It's pretty good, and you can probably get in and out for $10 if you don't get their fancy teas.

There's also Zorba's, an inexpensive Greek joint right near the Circle.  Good for takeout, it's not exactly stylish but the food is pretty good and it's not a chain.

There's also Circa and Raku.  They will be difficult to get out under $10, unless you just get one dish and just plain tap water, but they are cheap, they are reasonably stylish/trendy and the food is decent though not spectacular.

As someone else said, you'll be hard-pressed to find anywhere with a modicum of style in DC where the food is decent and less than $10, but the above were the best options I can think of.
