  1. Are the kids heading to foster care at this point.

If not, try family counseling.  Family services/social services will provide this service for free.  THe goal is always to try and keep the family unit together.

Relative would then be the best choice.  Again, the relative should petition the court for custody so that they can get the kid treated at a hospital if needed, school requirements etc.

Entrustment - kid is entrusted to social services temporarily so that the parent can get things under control.

    Hope that helps,

  2. The first thing done when a child must be taken away from his or her parents is to try to find a blood relative to take in the child. That can be an aunt or uncle, a grandparent, an older sibling, even a cousin. That is the FIRST option that is pursued.

If there are no relatives at all willing or able to take in such a child, then sometimes, neighbors or very close family friends step forward and offer to foster the child.

But if no family and no friends step forward and offer care, or if none meet the requirements in the eyes of social services, then a child goes into foster care.

  3. I agree.  A blood relative must be sought out first, even if its a cousin, twice removed, etc.  Other than that, if no one is found to take on the child(ren), they must be placed in foster care, wether its a home or facility.
