What are some amazing features about chickens?

im getting chickens, and its kind of a hobby for me to find out the amazing features animals have, like some of their abilities that seem unnatural.

Amazing things about chickens:

1. They can lay an egg approximately every day until they get older.  

2. Their eggs are the PERFECT environment for their offspring.

3. They are excellent at catching mice.

4. They can be trained to use the litter box.

5. They can live to be 20 years old. I had one that was 14 before we had to put her down. (Laid an egg every 3 months.)

6. The older the bird is, the fewer eggs it lays, but the larger the eggs are.

7. The chicks are able to care for themselves after birth (exception being a heat source is necessary for survival).

8. They are CANNIBALS. They see red (blood) on another bird or animal and they WILL go after it.

9. They kill (and eat) small snakes.

10. They all have personalities, no matter the breed.  Some are more aloof, some are more friendly, some are more cuddly.

They taste like chicken, and so does almost everything else.

They eat almost anything so be sure to feed them layer pellets and not all scratch, scratch should be a treat only.  I also give mine "giant mealworms" from a pet store, just a few now and then.  I also give them salad leftovers, grass, bananas, watermelon!!   They like to sleep "high" like on an elevated platform or rod.  They will follow you everywhere and whine like a dog when they first see you.  Be sure to protect them from wild birds.  Join the Chickens 101 list on Yahoo to learn more stuff!!
