What are some appropriate "thank you" gifts for a 17 year old boy?

My daughter is 13 and she had a 17 year old tutor April 2008-present. He's still coming 2x a week during the summer to help prepare her for math in September. He just graduated high school, and is going away to college in September. I don't know what to get him as a thank you gift. Other then American Express giftcards [we are thinking about giving him one... $25 or 50- which one?], what else could we get him? If we were to write him a note along with the giftcard [we meaning my daughter and I] what should the note say? He has been very helpful and has helped my daughter so much that he has no idea. He really didn't just help her academically but he pulled up her self esteem in the subject area as well. Thanks in advance for everyones help :)

$50 on the gift card, but cash would be even better (I have a 17 year old boy). Boys like food, videos, food, movies and more food. In addition to the gift card, a note written by your daughter and perhaps home made cookies.

A gas card if he drives would also be a nice gift.

If he has a car I would get him a gas card. If no car then get him movie passes. I know women like nice notes. (my wife anyway) but I would just stick with Thanks for your help. You would make a great teacher someday.

on the card just say thanks for everything.  tel him howmuch he is appreciated and that he doesnt know all  the good has has done for your daughter.

If he is coming 2x a week, I think you should know what he likes by now.  You and your daughter should prepare him a very special dinner and present his card to him then.  Go all out!!!

u should get him a nice card and write him a note from ur daughter and you  saying thank you and u have helped so much ect. and put $50.00 cash into it or u could get him like a gas card if he has a car but i think cash would be the best and for something else i would get him like a little something like idk a stuffed animal that said thank you or something

thts a good idea:) or u couldd get soemthign for him tht hed use in coolegeor you could go to soem type of gidft shop and they always have lill doohickiessss....nice special thankyouu hangupss ..things made of glass u know..cute stufflfliek that u hsoudl try and checkk out tt those places in a mallandd in th note u hsould jsut write what uu jus told us... tht hes been mroe of a help than he even knwo sand ur daughters htankful for th help he gave her andddd u couldn thakn ghim neough for bring up her selfesteeem..etc..etc
