What are some attractive household plants that are safe to have around pets and children?

Or should I ask what plants should I not get? I want to spruce my home up with some decorative live plants but I know there are some that can be fatal if eaten by dogs or small children...and I have both.

Various herbs,  cats are fond of Catnip and a stoned cat can be more entertaining than TV.

good plants to have are:

mint (safe for kids and pets cats adore it)

tomatoes

strawberries

elephant ears (cats love to hide in them)

these are plants we have in our yard, and the grandchildren and our pets have not been harmed by them. (unless excessive strawberry eating is harmful)
