  1. pollution, noise, whistles, long lines

  2. polution in lima

cuy.......guinea pig..........i thought it was aweful tasting.

the very expensive train ride you must take when the el cheep-o train from ollyantambo to machu-puchu (or return) fills up.

theft can be a problem since there are so many huge tourist areas and so many that do not have lots of money.  in lima, people kept telling me i should not have brought my camera even.

the people in peru are awesome, i met so many wonderful people, but many of them asked me for something.....no preasure or nothing, but they really want to get ahead.  one person asked me to bring down a laptop for them the next time i came, but i never came back, another asked me for a sweater, still another got me to buy him dinner (after he took me around to some cool shops that i could have found myself)

oh yeah, and the street sellers in cusco are pretty insistant.  even though the police stop them from coming up to you, you still sometimes have to be firm cause the police are not always there, nor do you want them to be there sometimes cause i bought some cool hand painted cards.  and if you DO buy something, they hope you will buy more later by telling you "maybe later?"  they WILL find you later...just say NO!  and be firm. <grin>

the altitude is SO very high at lake titicaca and on the way to the coloca canyon.  even at cusco, it is high. i would NOT reccomend flying straight to the lake as your first stop first.  at 14,000 feet up, it is high, cusco is high enough to start.  i had a terrible headache the entire first day.

one more bad thing.........you can't do it all in 2 or even 3 weeks!  perhaps in 3 if you do a lot of flying everywhere and skip much of lima.

peru is just too great to miss however.

  3. I love Peru, so the "bad" things are coming from someone who is used to a first world country.

    1. The pollution is pretty bad.

    2. The drinking water (from the tap) can be bad for your health.

    3.  Although I have never had an uneasy feeling about the crime, in certain places, it has been bad.

    4.  The drivers in Peru are INSANE.  I thought new york city drivers were bad, these people take the cake.

    5.  Many of the taxi or combis are in ill repair.

That is the top of the list, but there are many wonderful things about the country.

The food is amazing, the people are generally wonderful, the culture is superior to ours (just my opinion).

I would love to live there long term.

  4. Pollution for sure! it is pretty bad!
