  1. Money: the cost to upgrade an entire school every few years is prohibitive (but its necessary with the speed of hardware/software development)

There are not enough tech support people to deal with the daily failures of networks, printers, computers, keyboards, smartboards, alphasmarts, etc

There isn't enough money set aside to train the teachers in how to use the new technology, so it sits there.

  2. Bias against technology/Generational bias.  Many teachers (sometimes rightfully) say we don't need computers.  Power Point is just a fancy overhead presentation.  Teachers have their file cabinets and their system down.  Some don't need to change that as long as what they are doing is working.

By the way, I use ppts, we do internet scavenger hunts, watch saved youtube videos and play video games on occasion in history class.

  3. Barriers:  FUNDING and TRAINING.

Schools need to have the money and resources/support necessary to have up to date equipment. I also think that there needs to be strong support/knowledge at the district level before it starts to to trickle down to the classrooms.  Teachers need training, professional development and mentorship to be able to implement ideas into the classroom. Overall teachers need time and a more integrated curriculum as a whole where we aren't forced to compartimentalize subjects. We need more integration of everything including technology.
