What are some beneficial cartoons my 4-year old nephew can watch?

There's so many cartoons out there today that I feel kids are harmed by, or at least don't benefit from. I remember when we used to watch Bananaman (remember?), and don't forget Super Ted (the good old days, eh?)!

I don't know why but he loves watching Spongebob ('Spunch-pa' in his language) with his older brother. I don't know about that yellow dude and his cronies, but I don't think he's a good influence on my nephews, and I think he should be watching something else.

On a good note though, he does love 'The Magic Schoolbus'. what are other similarly beneficial and positive cartoons for young children to watch?

  1. sometimes we need a bit of mindless nonsense, remember s****. do?Not a lot of learning in that but a lot of fun

  2. veggietales, penguins, caillou, rescue heroes, wishbone, the pond

  3. Anything on the Disney Channel

  4. Don't cut out Sponge Bob altogether.  There is great benefit in knowing how to relax, be silly & have fun.

There are all kinds of educational cartoon & puppet shows out there - Blue's Clues, Diego, Dora,  Between the Lions, Sesame Street, etc.

But, let kids just be kids from time to time, too!

  5. Mine are 6 and 3.

I really don't like the "yellow dude and his cronies"( lol) either.

    I love max and ruby

They do like Sprouts, some Noggin. I think Little Einsteins are one of the best- I think the really learn. Dora too

  6. there is this one cartoon on pbs that my 4 year old and my 2 year old love called superwhy, sesame street is always good, then on noggin there is dora the explorer, go diego go, and more!

Oh by the way you made my husband and I laugh when you said "that yellow dude and his cronies" lol and my little guy calls him "spongba pants"

  7. None of them are "benificial".  Try taking him to a playground or going into the back yard.  Why does a 4 year old need to learn how to be a couch potato?

  8. Little Einstein videos and  a lot of cartoons on Nick Jr. My daughter loves the Nick Jr. line up and she is almost 4...she can count to 5 in spanish now and say some colors in spanish thanks to Dora and Diego, and she has learned other things like sharing and what not from other shows on there...they are set for a toddler audience so they are really good for younger kids to watch.

Also a little spongebob here and there isn't that bad...even I let my daughter watch him, along with Fairly OddParents...They need a hype in the evening when they start wanting to take a nap around 5 or 6 ,in which case they will never go to sleep until 1 in the morning.

Now if he was watching Adult Swim on Cartoon Network after 11 at night then I would worry because they have some really raunchy things on there sometimes.

  9. Veggietales, 3-2-1 Penguins, or anything on PBS.

  10. Dora the Explorer   This is a very interactive cartoon that has children up and moving about.  Very instructional. Preschool orientated.  Checkit out.

  11. My children love Little Einsteins, anything on PBS or on Noggin...

Also, I know you didn't ask but, I go to the web site listed last for online games for preschoolers to play...some fun for babies and toddlers.

  12. Let him watch toon disney or  nickolodeon . Boomerang is also a great channel.
