  1. There are a number of great breaks throughout the DelMarVa region.  During the summer, the waves are a little smaller, but the water is warm and the paddles are not long.  The breaks are primarily beach breaks with good quality depending on the bars.  From Washington DC it will take you about 3 hours to get to the OC breaks or 4 hours to get to Va Bch.  Below is a list of the various spots.

the south end of Dewey Beach is still good at higher tide, the Indian River Inlet is slightly wind protected and usually has something to ride.  The south end of Fenwick Island State Beach has a good right as does the state line.  The better breaks are 63nd st, 48th st, the sand bar from 35-39th, and the two jetties around 8th st.  Assateague Island at the north end parking lot on the National Seashore has a super outside reef that breaks at lower tide.  Farther south, Chinteague Island has two good breaks, on the north end of the first parking lot, and way down at the south end.  The next great break south is at the inlet in Virginia Beach.

  2. Take a look at the link below.  It lists 36 spots in the Delaware, Virginia, Maryland area.  Usually with wannasurf.com there's a map showing you where they are, unfortunately with this area of the US there's no map.  :(

Just click on the ones that sound interesting.  You'll get a COMPLETE breakdown of the breaks!  Including: direction, consistency, surfing level, wave quality, power, bottom, tide info, swell info, directions, overview, and reviews.  (...and more.)

Quote from the website about the DC/Virginia area:

"Like most of the eastern coast of the United States this is a long stretch of beach break that is broken up by jetties, piers and inlets. And like the whole of the eastern seabord it is not as consistent as the West Coast and the waves for the most part are not near as powerful. The breaks can turn on and offer quality beach break peaks but cannot be compared to the points and reefs of the west coast. This region suffers from a large continental shelf that decreases the power of the waves. Massive temperature variations as well. On the plus side the majority of surfers in the region are good and decent folks that for the most part are far removed from the aggro scene so evident at many southern California beaches...very little localism horseshit is in evidence."
