Beverages - endless supplies of branded bottle water, tea, coffee, all the big brand soda companies (Coca Cola, Pepsi, etc), there's plenty of coffee shops including that virulent spore that is Starbucks.  I don't know what you're really expecting.  

Best time to travel depends on the traveller, you have to choose a time to suit yourself.  Although it tends to be much better in Summer then Winter, the days are longer & sometimes they're warmer - at the moment, we're wondering if we're going to get a Summer : )

Pack according to the season you travel in but don't forget to bring some sort of rain coat/waterproof jacket (light one in Summer) or umbrella and waterpoof shoes, (before anyone gets steamed up), any shoes that are fairly watertight.
