I am planning on going to graduate school for mathematics or applied mathematics and I really enjoy probability, but I don't think a degree in statistics would be for me. What are some research areas or careers that require a lot of knowledge of probability? I already know of financial mathematics. Responses from graduate students or professors preferred.

  1. Actuary, top 3 in careers for the past 15 years at least.

  2. I have managed to use quite a bit of statistics as a zoologist. A lot of statistical advances came from gamblers. "Student" (of t-test fame) worked for Guiness, so there must have been som use for statistics there. Come to think of it, almost any research requires a background in statistics and probability.

  3. Go for master degree in stastical sciences...
