There is the  International Arts Festival, plays, street theater and other entertainment, this happens in November.

There is also the  Festejos Populares (Year-end Festivals) celebrated between Dec 25-31. All they do is make a carnival type setting with amusement ride, food and entertainment. They also celebrate " Tope" on Dec. 26  Tope is celebrated in downtown San Jose by showing off their horses, its a horse parade. Carnival is celebrated on Dec. 27 in downtown San Jose, its a parade with floats and music.

Día de San José, Saint Joseph is the patron saint of the capital city San José, and the day is recognized nationwide by Catholics with special masses (especially in the many other towns and communities named San José). It is an official business, bank and school holiday in the capital. Thats in March

In November they celebrate El Desfile de Carretas, a parade of ox carts. Festival de la Luz is San José's week long festival of lights is marked by lighting displays and concerts and fireworks after dark in the park.

Aside from those, San Jose celebrates all the official holidays of Costa Rica and other less notable celebrations.
