I'm sorry to say that my helicopter knowledge is virtually non-existant. I was wondering which parts utilise ceramics for some research into materials. Any help would be great. Thanks

  1. There has been a lot of research into using ceramic turbine wheels in jet engines due to their excellent heat resistance.  If the bugs can be worked out, I've heard that it will be possible to double the horsepower with the same size and weight.

I'm not aware of any ceramics in current use, and clutches in helicopters have gone the way of the dodo bird.

  2. Ceramics have been used in turboshaft engines for years in helicopters.

  3. engine components, blade control surface,? just guessing

  4. Helicopters have clutches, and I know that high torque clutches are usually ceramic. I can't think of anything else really.
