Question:

What are some cheap and easy ideas for food for a baby shower?

I need ideas, recipes, anything! It will be at 2pm so people will have already eaten lunch and will soon be planning dinner. We want more than just cake, but we're limited on funds. We'd rather put more money into the actual gifts we give her that she needs for her first baby, rather than in food. Please help!

Serious answers only please :) Thanks!

  1. How about a fruit compote as well?

  2. a few different "dips" would always work, try some little roll ups, with like salami lunch meat and cheeses..

  3. mix cream cheese with minced black olive and onion. Spread on tortillas, wrap and chill. Once chilled slice and stick with toothpicks. Serve with salsa. (I promise, it's yummy!)

Quiche is elegant and super cheap since it's mostly eggs.

Small "pigs-in-a-blanket" always work and they're really cheap.

I'm in a rush right now, but I'll add more if I think of any

  4. mix chesse-its , prezels , mashmellos and chex. it is about $8.( get lays too)

  5. I have to say, that most people will skip there lunch thinking that they will be eating at the shower. Most people expect food a hate to say. I understand that you would rather buy gift, but you also have to think about the guest. How much do you have for food? There are many cheaper things to make. I'll look back, and give idea based on your funds.

    cocktail weiners

    2 packs cocktail weiners

    1 large BBQ sauce

    Put in crock pot

    cream cheese roll ups

    1 pack hard salami

    1 pack cream cheese

    2 packs small bread sticks

Spread a thin layer of cream cheese on one peice of hard salami and roll onto the bread sticks, you'll know if you put to much cream cheese. If you are not presses for time you could mix your cream cheese with some chopped olives.

    pickle tray

    sweet pickles

    dill pickles

    olives

People don't really eat veggie trays to well, you always get left with so much, pickles always do better.

    cheese and crackers

    two different cheeses

two different crackers(buy an assorted pack it will save money)

    Jello salad

1 pack orange jello (not prepared, just the powder)

    1 16 oz. cool whip

    1 8 cottage cheese

    1 can mandarin oranges(drained)

1 can crushed pineapple W/ juice

    mix all together

You should be able to get all this for less then $50. I hope it helps!

  6. I'd stick with something simple and easy to eat.  Here are some ideas to mix and match or simply use:

    1.  Vege platter with ranch dressing

    2.  Marinated olives, mushrooms, and artichoke hearts

    3.  Cheese platter:  Spanish Manchega, Brie, Gouda, Havarti, Cambozola with artisan crackers and sliced baguettes.  Trader Joes has a wonderful variety of cheese for the lowest cost!

    4.  Fresh fruit kabobs with a marshmallow yogurt dip

    5.  Fresh strawberries with dishes of sour cream and brown sugar to dip in.

    6.  Cured meats such as:  cappicola, peppered salami, fennel salami, sopressata, etc. and provolone cheese slices, green onion, pepperoncini, olives.

    7.  Dessert Platter:  mini brownie bites, lemon bars, pecan pie tartlets, cookies.

Since your shower is a two o'clock you don't need to have more substantial food.  Something to nosh on is perfect!

  7. Pigs in a blanket. Use crescent rolls and lil smokies. Cut the crescent rolls to size needed and wrap around the lil smokie. Bake according to instructions for crescent rolls.

  8. Veggie platters, ie carrots, brocalli, cauliflower etc with some ranch dressing or any dressing. Fruit platters, ie apples, bananas, grapes, strawberries.  Cheese and crackers.  Just finger foods... and nothing that needs cooking.  Any of these would work.

  9. So this is a pot luck you're going to?

If it's in between lunch and dinner, Id bring nachos and look up some nice recipes for dips.

Theres this nacho dip I make with creame cheese, salsa, shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream....I don't know the EXACT recipe but you might be able to find it on the net. It's really quick and easy to make too, and if you make it the night before, you can keep it refrigerated.

  10. Good day,

Your shower is at 2:00 perfect time for low tea..  high tea  is really a dinner. Low teas are afternoon around 2-3. You can use and mix of teas cups and offer : mini finger sandwiches-open faced w/ cream cheese and cummbers mini quiches or fruit tarts,

mini biscuits w/ tangy marmalade. you should be able to do this for $ 20-30 for 20 people.

    Enjoy
