Not a restaurant as such, but Wetherspoons pubs are generally a very cheap and decent way of eating out, especially when they do the "grill club" on Tuesdays and "curry club" on Thursdays. A nice and varied menu, and cheap drinks too.

There are certain neighborhoods that have quite a few.  For example, you can find a lot around the Queensway tube station near Hyde Park.

we had a 2 course meal after the theatre to see the lion king on saturday night (highly reommended by the way) and it was only £9.90 per head at bistro1. Was lovely as well!
