The very first atmosphere on Earth is made of hydrogen.  That quickly escaped into space.  Then Earth had a carbon dioxide and nitrogen atmosphere, till life developed and formed a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere.  In short, Earth had three atmospheres in its history.
