What are some christmas traditions you grew up with?

I have a little brother or sister on the way and my mom and i want to make christmas special for them. we already know about making a trail of santa foot prints from the fireplace to the tree and reindeer food. we just want some more ideas.

I always loved decorating the tree with my family. We'd have cider and popcorn and Christmas music while we did it.

Nowadays in my neighborhood, everyone puts up tons of lights. Every chance we get we take the kids for a walk around the block to look at the decorations. I put up some myself but I'm not so good at it.

17. Everyone drinks coco around the fire place

Mom always put our stockings at the end of our beds.  Each thing would be individualy wrapped.  This gave my parents about 45 minutes of extra sleep.  When we were really young...she would change us into new PJ's in the middle of the night.  We thought Santa used his magic  to give us new PJ's.  My Mom was pretty terrific.

We always put up a Christmas tree in the house, and decorated it.   The family also gave each other gifts, wrapped in pretty paper.  Playing Christmas music on the Victrola, and even singing along, was fun.

after, i drink hot chocolate, and put my dogs sweater on her!

I decorate (because my mom dad and sister were at soccer one time, so i decotated the whole inside of the house, and they said it was WAY better then all of them doing it, and they are usually at soccer the day i decorate!) I decorate my room with a smaller christmas tree also, and i do that to my sisters room, and the TV room, and the main Christmas tree in the living room also! (phew!)

.Me and my sister get 1 present christmas eve and it is always pajamas to sleep in and wear for christmas day!

.I always put cards for my mom dad and sister and dog ( yes, dog! its christmas for them too!) inside of their stockings, and the stockings are always jammed with small gifts on christmas!

.We ALWAYS watch TONS of christmas movies as a family, and i watch them again with just me!

.The whole family (including uncles and aunts and grandparents) come over and we open 1 present at a time so we can all see what everyone gets! While we listen to the Hilary Duff Christmas CD ( it's really good! ) and we also have the fireplace channel on. ( the one with the burning christmas fireplace going for all of december!)

.My mom always makes Keesh for everyone, and i always do ALL of the baking so that people can eat while we open presents.

.When we are done opening presents, My mom and dad start to cook dinner, with everyone else helping them just a little! And i ALWAYS make name tags to place where people will sit!

.We always say grace before we eat out marvellous turkey Christmas dinner!

.We always have pumpkin pie and whipped cream ontop for dessert!

.Everyone stays late

.New tradition this year, i am going to play my guitar and let everyone sing along to the christmas songs!

.That night it is tough to go to bed, because your so happy, and that day wont come again for 365 days! So i usually just clean my room, it is usually cluttered with all my new christmas stuff!

.That night i always say thank you for everything i got.

.I go to sleep soon after that, and think about Christmas, and how amazing it is!

** and thats basicly it!, Christmas is my favourite time of year!, I love to give and see peoples faces light up with joy!! I wouldn't even mind if i didn't get anything, because what really makes me happy is being with my family. and us all being safe! of course my family does spoil eachother with gifts EVERY year, but hey, thats Christmas time, right!?

My family has a spaghetti dinner on Christmas Eve, it's a tradition my grandmother started. My brothers and I also get to open one present each on that night. We go pick out the Christmas tree and decorate it as a family as well.

In my family we always opened one present on christmas eve. We made decorating the tree and house a family event, even the outside lights. Making everyone a personal ornament every year or even buying one for each family member each year. Of course christmas dinner which is usually turkey or ham. My mom's oldest tradition is having oranges in the house during the whole season (her mother used to do it), and keeping a heaping bowl of nuts with a nutcracker for snacks. We also collected christmas records and had an old record player. My father's favorite thing was non-alcoholic egg nog and building a collection of christmas movies. Hope some of this helps.

One tradition my mom and I have is making christmas candy.  She did this with her mom (we both are the only girl of 4 and the youngest) and now she and I do this together.  I look forward to it every year!

My parents wanted to make every day in December special, so since I was little we do this things called "calender". Every night my brother and I open a little door on a calender we have and inside is a slip of paper with either my brother or my name, both of our names, or one of my parents or grandparents name. Whoevers name is on the piece of paper gets a present that night up until Christmas (since my mom is allergic to real trees, we have a fake one we put up after Thanksgiving and all the presents go under there all December long). Then on Christmas, we only get one present each. It's really nice and the "presents" range from actual things (I got an iPod two calenders ago) to "Make Cookies with the Family Night" or "Game Night with the Family".

We also give the reindeer lots of carrots and homemake cookies to give to Santa. :]

We put decorations up everywhere.

And get a new swimming pool every year, but if you live in America or UK that's not a good idea.

Also having a big roast with salads,and lollies, and ice creams afterwards. A big Xmas tree in the lounge is nice. (or family room??, living room?)

:) Footprints from the fireplace isn't such a bad idea actually. :)
