It depends on where you live.  Most state schools are less expensive than private ones, but private schools give out more scholarship money.

For instance, my daughter was accepted to a private school in Columbia, MO.  They offered her 17,000 in scholarships a year, and the school was 28K per year, including room and board.  She got a better offer from a state school in Texas that waived the out of state tuition AND gave her a scholarship.

You just have to shop around.  Good luck!

Check your state school, that should be much cheaper for in-staters.
