There are so many phrases to name that I'd recommend you buy or borrow the Complete Idiot's Guide to Learning French. It's more of a guide/reference book than a self-teaching aid. It's jam-packed with all the phrases that you need to know for travel. Since you don't really need to learn how to assemble the phrases yourself, it would be a really helpful book to take along with you. It also comes with a CD that reads along with you, especially helpful with pronunciation. I find the format extremely easy to read and follow along - it makes everything very easy to understand.

Or you can try the Berlitz French Phrase Book & Dictionary which is a little more compact. I have the Japanese version of this book but I'm assuming that the format and concepts are the same.

I can help you with some common phrases Elva, but I don't know your level of fluency and what languages you are more comfortable with.

All you need to know about hamburgers in France is that the Quarter Pounder with cheese is called the Cheeseburger Royale.

For ordering, you can say "J'aimerais (un baguette)" or "Je voudrais (le coq au vin)"

Ou est le metro? (where is the metro)

Ou se trouve l'Arche de Triomphe? (where is the Arche de Triomphe)



also good to know that "à droite" is "on the right" but "toute droite" is "straight ahead". "A gauche" is "on the left".
