  1. The answers above are good. But remember. Gifted and smart are not synonyms. Many gifted children grasp the material without putting a lot of effort in studying. Many gifted students perform poorly in school because they think they know it all and can't stand for a teacher to correct them or tell them something. I had a student who was gifted and had a learning disability. A lot of gifted student struggle in high school and college because they are good at learning facts, but poor at applying what they learn and critical thinking skills.

  6. As a former gifted kid I will explain myself.  My IQ has tested as low as 147 and as high as 163.  I am dyslexic visuospatial.  I have unconvential solutions, and am told I think outside the box.  I think quickly, generalize easily.  Academics are a breeze.  The reading isn't, I stopped trying to read textbooks in elementary school, in highschool used textbooks as reference material and in college didn't bother buying the books.  I have a memory span of 10 digits.  I have few friends, nearly none in my age bracket, don't relate well to others, people don't get my jokes and think I am condescending.  I am clumsy, have allergies, am left-handed, can solve things just looking at it without trial and error, am a visual thinker, my fluid intelligence is higher than crystallized intelligence, am considered odd, learn with minimal repetition, very creative, artistic, good with music, challenge authority, lots commonsense, a good guesser, and more interested in fantasy play than most.  I recall turning down parties in highschool to do dungeons & dragons, or vampire the masquerade.  I also remember having NT friends who didn't understand why I would choose to go to the Franklin Institute for a laser light show, get up to watch an eclipse, or go to the mutter museum rather than go to prom, a party etc.
