What are some common reasons that the window on the truck wont work?

What are some common reasons that the window on the truck wont work? I think its a 86 or 87 Ford Ranger (i think,im not totally sure cuz it aint my truck). But I just need a few things i can check before taking it to a shop. Thanks!!

I assume you are talking about a power window. More often than not it is simply dust and dirt inside the rocker switch. If you are really lucky just pushing down with a bit of extra force and working the switch back and forth may dislodge the debris and it will start working again. If not you will need to remove the switch and check with a test light whether there is power to the switch. Check the fuses. If there is power to the switch and power back out of the switch to the motor, you could have a failed motor. Some of these are a real pain to change! At that point you probably want to take it to a shop! Good Luck!

Well.. you would have to open up the door panel to check.. possibly a wire is broke... or the window fell off of the track.

maybe the handle is broken off.. on the outside or even the inside of the door.

but its a mechanical thing and if you can get to the insides.. you probably have enough mechanical inclination to fix it.
