  1. You have to visit Heidelberg!!

Heidelberg is one of the most well known cities in Germany and throughout the world. It is considered to be beautiful and romantic, which I can testify to.

Heidelberg has your usual array of museums and a castle overlooking the city. It lies along the Neckar and offers boat guides.

Being an international city, you will find more than German cuisine. Thai, Japanese, Korean, Turkish, and German restaurants all offering delicious food. You will even Pizza Hut, Subway, Burger King, Starbucks and McDonald's if you get a little homesick...

Heidelberg offers great pubs and clubs if you are an night owl!

Anyways, Heidelberg is a must see city in Germany. There is a special saying about Heidelberg:

Ich hab' mein Herz in Heidelberg verloren -

I lost my heart in Heidelberg.

I guarantee that you will too!

  2. Any place along the Mosel River is beautiful.  If you like to visit castles, most of the major towns along the river have one.  and don't miss Burg Eltz

  3. also aachen is worth a visit, it's near cologne, it's the city of Charles the Great, the emperor of '800 dc . and his beautiful dome with a mosaik which is really worth seeing. i'd say aachen is nice to spend half a day, it's settled at the point of three countries between holland and belgium. Aachen also has fontaines everywhere, and a nice historical centre.

  4. you should go to munich

  5. I would recommend Berlin, as a major historical place and a very lively city with lots of different experiences for young people.

Munich is the typical well groomed, well organised city and with stunning surroundings (lakes, snow covered mountains). Don't miss Neuschawnstein Castle, it shows in every brochure about Germany.

The Rhine Valley is worth a visit if you have a car. You will stroll across villages and vineyards.

Wuppertal is worth paying a visit because of a train that hangs from the rail instead of rolling on it.

If you have to choose just one part of the country, choose Bavaria.

  6. where exactly are you? There is alot to see in Germany....

Heidelberg in the south is a really cool place to visit...

  7. Wiesbaden and Mainz. Wiesbaden still has a few Roman Ruins left, Mainz has one of the oldest Catherals and a museum where you can see the Gutenberg Bibles, Yes more than 1. Worms, the cathedral where Martin Luther nailed his protests on the door is still there. Trier, see the black coliseum left over from the Romans. Heidelberg for the castle, the university, also lots of Roman artifacts. Eltville on the way to Munich has a small cathedral built by knights during the crusades. There's just so much and so little time.

  8. Berlin!!!!!!

  9. The Black Forest is a definite must.  I would recommend Freiburg and Trier.  There is also Baden Baden, which has  thermal springs and spa's.  There is Europa Park, which is a theme park.  Also check out the smaller villages you can find all sorts of neat things and many one of a kind items.  Also take advantage of the rail system.  it will get you anywhere you want to go.  A Europass is a must.

  10. my favorite cities are munich and heidelberg. i know you don't travel to germany to eat asian food, but there is the best chinese food in the world at "bismarkplatz" in downtown heidelberg.

i'm assuming you'll be flying into frankfurt, so that city is worth a look.  also, try to make your way up to cologne.  it has the hugest coolest cathedral you'll ever see.

and in all honesty, i know berlin has a lot of history, but there's really not a lot to see there.  it's actually pretty much a huge hole.  if you have to choose between berlin and another city, i would advise to see another city.

oh....also, there are tons of cool little villiages that are typical little german towns all along the coast of the mosel river.  maybe even take a mini cruise down the mosel and you'll literally see dozens of cool castles.

  11. Rothenberg, Hedilberg, Black Forest, Neuschwanstein Castle, Garmisch, and so many more but these are my favorites.

  12. If you like to hike I would recommend the "Black Forest" or "Schwarzwald" in German.

  13. castle wolfeinstein other castles octoberfest musiums

  14. Castel "Neuschwanstein", WHOLE Berlin, the Alps, Baltic Sea, the island Usedom....

  15. We visited an amazing place in Germany called Berchtesgaden .  It is about a 45 minute bus ride from Salzburg in the Bavarian Alps.  There are several cool things to see here.  The Obersalzberg Mountain is where Hitler, Himmler, Goering, Goebbels, Spiers, Bormann, etc.  Had their homes and while there is not much left of the homes on the surface, the entire bunker system is still in tact that connects all of them (several miles worth).  Most of the bunkers are closed but there is one section that you can go into. It is under what is now the Dokumentation Center (a pictorial account of the holocaust which is free for students).  This was fascinating!!

From the Dokumentation Center you can take a bus ride up the mountain to Hitler's Eagles Nest (Elevation = 1843m).  If you plan to see this make sure you go sometime after mid-may and before September as it is closed due to snow for most of the year.  You will need to book this tour through one of the tour company's there.  We went with Eagles Nest Tours (http://www.eagles-nest-tours.com).  The woman who runs the tours is Christine Harper.  She is very knowledgeable and speaks perfect English.  She is originally from Montana but has lived there for 10-20 years (sorry my memory is fuzzy on the exact number).  Christine took us up the Obersalzberg as well and pointed out where all of the houses were and the history behind what happened there. She was fantastic and  I would heartily recommend her to everyone.  An interesting side note, she took Tom Hanks through the bunkers and up to the Eagles Nest when he was producing Band of Brothers!

Berchtesgaden is very small but I fell in love with it.  It is situated in the heart of the Bavarian Alps and the views are breathtaking!

    Blessings!

  16. Ok I live in Heidelberg and I'm wondering why everyone thinks it's so great?  Yes we have a castle but so does every other city here.  I would recommend going to Munich they have the best combination of history and modern German culture that I can think of and it wouldn't be hard to go see Dachau (WWII concentration camp) and Neuschwanstein Castle from there.  Plus you have the Bavarian Culture and the octoberfest thing going for you. It also has a good night life.  If you are planning on multiple cities Koln, Frankfurt, Berlin, Nurnberg.  Just Get over here and hop on some trains.  But really of all that is over here Heidelberg shouldn't be a priority.

  17. The Rhein river is great.  There is a little village called St. Goar.  I've been here twice.  They have a great Steiff Teddy Bear shop there, a HUGE Christmas Shop, and a great Italian restaurant up one of the little side alleys.  Rheinfels Katz (castle) is also in this town and you can take a river boat tour on the Rhein.

It is not touristy and it is definately "old world" Germany.

  18. Dortmund, Hamburg, Berlin

all the main cities. Thats where the fun lies

  19. You should definitely go to Munich. Hofbrauhaus, The Glockenspiel, Mariensplatz, Englisher Garten, Nymphenburg Palace, The Residenz, take a bike or walking tour. It's the best place and have the nicest people.

  20. The Harz mountains, the islands in the north see (you can hike across the north sea mudflats to some of the islands in low tide) and Berlin. The Spreewald south of Berlin rocks too.  And if you are going on from Berlin to Prague, you must stop in Dresden. Look into getting tickets for the Green Vault in Dresden if your visit is in a few months from now.
