Hey, guys! I'm going to university next year, and I want to make the room a little bit more personal. I want plant(s). Does anybody know of any plants that are really neat, but not too high-maintenance? It'd be cool if they're good in low light, too. I just need some ideas, throw them out here!

  1. Coleus!  They look amazing and are low-maintenance house plants.

Spider plants are even lower maintenance but not everyone likes them, they are cool the way that they multiply!

Cacti are very low maintenance and there are many types, but a little bit unplant-like!

  2. Get yourself a Mother-in-Law Tongue. They get about feet tall, need very little water and rarely need to be transplanted. You don't even need to fertilize them . They come in solid Green color or a varigated green with yellow margins. They will reproduce by sending up little plants from the soil and they will grow in very low light or bright light.  You absolutely cannot kill these unless you water them too much.  You need to water them only every couple of weeks in the summer and once a month or less in the winter. These plants are masters of surviving neglect.  I posted a picture of both types so you can see them.  They may be sold under their scientific name of Sansevieria trifasciata. You have probably seen them in various businesses.

  3. What about a pot of mixed herbs (basil, parsley, cilantro, rocket, cress etc.) That way you have attractive plants that smell good and you can throw them in your food for taste and nutrition.
