Mozilla Firefox 3, for one. Then get Open Office at www.openoffice.org. Steam is a good place for games (Half-Life 2, Portal, Garry's Mod). Check out System Requirements Lab (Google it) to get a feel for what you can run and what you can't.

5.1 surround sound speakers. Wireless mouse. A wi-fi router if you don't have one already. Carrying case.

Assuming you have XP, then get XPize, if not, forget that.
